Creativity: Doodles and Scribbles

Doodling, or idle scribbling, helps relieve boredom and frustration. As stress levels rise the urge to doodle gets stronger . Doodling is like a safety valve that allows pressure to be dispelled in a playful and creative way.

The scribbles and doodles above are the work of three participants, each with a different scribbling tool. One with a red felt-tip pen, another with a blue one and another with a ball-point pen.

Each participant took it in turn to do the first scribble, the other two following by doodling. Can you tell which is the starting scribble in the above ?

Interestingly, scribbling is one of the best ways to improve your drawing skills. … The type of scribbling I’m talking about is part of a technique called “gesture drawing.” Its purpose is to help you capture a subject’s unique quality or its “gesture.”

Also Scribbling helps build eye hand coordination developing fine motor skills needed for writing, drawing and other related skills.
